Environmental education and awareness

SEDA’s assessment revealed that the environmental degradation in the area is serious. Deforestation and investment Programmes have showed the greatest environmental impact in terms of vegetation losses, erosion, socio-economic and health damages. There is no monitoring system established at local level to detect environmental effects and impacts of the different investment ventures (commercial/industrial) at district level and even at zonal and regional levels.

  1. Environmental education (training, seminars, local panel discussion, workshops, class lecturing)
  2. Advocacy and mobilization (Establishing environmental clubs, publishing environmental leaflets, nature walk, demonstration field visits, video show, photograph exhibition, public meetings etc)
  3. Promotion of environmental activities (private/school/community nursery establishment, communal/private wood lot establishment, natural forest reserve, energy conservation/efficiency, credit for agricultural inputs, environmental impact research/assessment on agricultural investment and industries)
  4. Environmental network creation (With NGOs, GOs, Funding agencies in the region and out side)
